How To Properly Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Properly cleaning your makeup brushes is super important.  Not only for sanitary reasons and helping keep your skin clear, but a clean brush applies makeup so much better.  You should give them a thorough cleaning once a week.  Below I am sharing how to do it quickly and a genius tip for removing that stubborn, waxy build up on your foundation brush.

All you need is this brush cleaner mat from Sigma or this one from Amazon (Makeup Brush Cleaning Mat.) , which is cheaper dupe and what is pictured above. You also need something to clean it with.  You can use baby shampoo but I typically use my favorite makeup cleanser or the Beauty Blender Soap.

I put the mat in the sink and run warm water.  All I do is apply the desired cleanser to the brush, rub it on the mat, then rinse off.  It is so quick and easy and my brushes have never been cleaner.  The grooves in the mat really help remove all of the build up.

To clean my beauty blender I do not rub it onto the mat (it will likely tear it).  I simply run it under hot water and get it nice and soaked.  I apply the cleanser to it and really work it through then run it under hot water to rinse it off.

I then let them air dry in the sink over night, that’s it!

I noticed my foundation brush would not come clean no matter what I did. It had this waxy build up inside that wouldn’t budge. Then I read this tip online and like magic it was brand new.  All you have to do is dip the brush in rubbing alcohol or pour some onto the brush and rub it on a paper towel until it rubs clean.  Every bit of makeup instantly comes right off.  (I do recommend washing it with the cleanser you used on the rest of your brushes before using on your face.)

I hope you found some of these tips useful. xo
