My Workout Routine and How I Stay Motivated

Today I wanted to share how I stay motivated to workout and what my current routine is.  It can be so hard to get started but once you get into the groove you will be so happy you did.  It’s good for your mind, body and soul.  I use to work out 90 mins a day, 6 days a week before I had kids.  I loved the way it made me look and feel.  Now a day’s I definitely don’t have the time for that so here is what I do to stay fit and healthy.

  1.  I set an obtainable goal of working out for 30 mins 3-4 days a week.  If I set the bar too high I am less likely to keep doing it and will burn out.  I don’t have a ton of spare time so doing 30 min workouts a few times a week is super easy to work into my schedule.
  2. I workout with a trainer.  If you are reading this you are amazing and I love you.  Her workouts are quick but super effective.  Every session is completely different, we work all the body parts, do cardio, lift weights, do TRX, the list goes on.  This not only helps your body change but keeps things interesting so you don’t get bored.  I have been going to her 3 times a week for almost a year now and I love it.  I
  3. I schedule my workouts in advance and usually for the entire month. I make it a priority just like every other appointment in my planner and never cancel unless I am sick or something really important comes up.
  4. I have a home gym but it is honestly so hard to get in there.  I do aim for going in once a week which sometimes happens.  I know when the kids get older it will get easier so I try to not worry about it.
  5. I love going for walks.  Now that the weather is finally warming up I try to take the kids for a walk everyday.  Between that and chasing them around outside I burn calories without even realizing it.
  6. I buy cute workout clothes.  I know it sounds cliche but it’s true.  Having cute new workout gear is just much more motivating to me.  Plus I usually end up wearing it all day on most days (as I type this at 8pm I am still wearing what I wore to workout at 8am).
  7. I eat healthy and don’t eat out often.  I love going out to eat but honestly hate the way restaurant food makes me feel. Usually we only eat out once a week and never get takeout.  I cook overnight and always make healthy meals.  However there are obviously times when we have parties, or events, or I am meeting a friend out and that’s ok you have to live.  I am not not going to enjoy my life.
  8. I believe in the concept of moderation.  There is nothing I don’t eat, yes I try to eat healthy most of the time but I do eat everything and don’t deprive myself. Also if I have a bad couple of days I don’t beat myself up over it.
  9. I drink a lot of water.  I aim for a gallon a day. Sometimes I don’t quite make it but typically do.  I just feel so much better when I’m hydrated.

What does your workout routine look like and how do you stay motivated?

xoxo
