The temperatures are dropping and the leaves are falling, so that means it is time for us to close our pool for the season. Even though it is a sad time, I am so happy I called Leslie’s this year. They made the process so easy for me to get our pool ready for the winter. Properly closing your pool is so important! It not only helps protect your pool and equipment from freeze damage, but it also keeps your water healthy and prevents bacteria and algae growth during the off- season. Leslie’s professionals have the expertise to make sure it gets done the right way, so opening your pool back up in the spring is a breeze. Here is what closing our pool for the season with Leslie’s pool closing service looked like.
Getting Our Pool Ready for The Off-Season
The first thing I did was head over to Lesliespool.com to get more information on the closing process. Winterizing and closing your pool is something you can do yourself. But, I felt better leaving this task up to the professionals, so I knew I wanted to schedule a full pool closing with one of their technicians.
Then I contacted the Customer Care number on the website (800-537-5437) and scheduled a day and time for the actual closing service. I also ordered a Leslie’s Premium Pool Closing Kit online, which includes all the chemicals needed to treat your pool before closing, and had it shipped right to my house.
Leslie’s Premium Pool Closing Kit has all the necessary chemicals to keep the water algae-free and bacteria-free during the off-season. It included Fresh ‘N Clear Shock, Algae Control, Pool Magic + PHOSfree, a WinterPill, and Stain & Scale Remover. I started preparing the pool water about a week ahead of time, then added most of the winter chemicals the day before my appointment.
The Actual Winterization and Pool Closing Service
When I scheduled the pool closing, I was given a 4-hour time frame, and then the day of the closing, a technician called me when he was about 30 minutes out. He was super knowledgeable and professional. This is what Leslie’s full winterization service looks like:
● Blow water from your filter, pumps, heater, and piping
● Add your antifreeze to the plumbing system (if needed)
● Plug all of your pipes with your plugs
● Blow and air-lock your bottom drains
● Remove all drain plugs from your pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator
● Lower your pool water to the proper level (can be done ahead of service)
● Remove your ladders and handrails and store them on your property
● Freeze protect your skimmer with your Gizmo
● Shut off the gas supply at your poolʼs heater (if needed)
● Backwash sand or DE filter and rinse off DE filter elements of cartridge
filter
● Install your solid or mesh pool cover using your water bags, springs, cover
stakes, or sand bags
