Our Fall Activities and Traditions

A soon as we had our children we immediately starting to take advantage of the fall season and began doing as many fall activities as possible. Over the years we have developed some traditions and do pretty much the same fun things every year. Here are our fall activities and traditions.

  1. Apple Picking- We are lucky that we live near so many great farms that offer a variety of fruits to pick. We usually do strawberries and blueberries in the summer and always go pick apples in the fall. My boys love doing this
  2. Going to the Farm- We live very close to a small animal farm. They do tours and birthday parties but during the month of October they open daily to the public so we always go to see all of the animals and feed some of them.
  3. Pumpkin Picking- There is one farm that we go to every year for this. They have pick your own pumpkins plus a variety of ones to purchase. They also do a hayride all around the farm and the views are just breathtaking. We get to indulge in fresh apple cider and pumpkin bread so we get all the fall feels. We go their opening weekend every year and it is my favorite fall tradition that we do.
  4. Halloween Baking- My older son loves to help in the kitchen so we always bake for the seasons. This time of year we will do halloween cupcakes and pumpkin shaped cookies. Pumpkin pie has always been my weakness so I usually save that for closer to Thanksgiving.
  5. Fairs- This was my first year going to fairs and we loved it. In Connecticut during September and October there is usually one every weekend and this year we went to two of them. The kids loved the food, the animals, and going on rides.
  6. Pumpkin Decorating- I always buy extra pumpkins for the kids to decorate. We paint them and I buy sticker kits for mess free fun.
  7. Running Around- I know it sounds simple but this is the best time of year to just let the kids run around and explore. Wander around, play in the leaves, this weather is perfect for spending some time outdoors before winter hits.

I just love teaching the kids about the holidays and seasons. And having our fall activities and traditions is the perfect way to do that.
